Cue care and maintenance

Thank you for purchasing from JBA Cues. Your cue has been made using the highest quality, AAA grade American white ash, which has rested for 12 months and been hand-selected for your cue by James. Your cue has been carefully handmade, using hand planes to achieve the taper and splicing, and only using a lathe for sanding to consistent roundness. Upon completion, your cue has been rested in an oil bath for 24 hours, allowing the oil to soak deep into the timber for maximum protection. Below are some general tips to keep your cue in peak condition throughout its lifetime. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact James via the JBA Cues facebook page www.facebook.com/JBACues.

DO:

  • Store vertically or in a quality case
  • Re-oil every 6 months (depending on how often you use your cue) using linseed oil (avoid the tip)
  • Clean with a dry or damp (not wet) cloth, paper towel or white plain paper
  • If the cue becomes wet (e.g. drink spill), dry immediately

DO NOT:

  • Lean the cue on a wall
  • Store near heat sources, wet/damp areas
  • Leave the cue in a car (due to extreme temperature variation)
  • Sand the cue or use steel wool

STRAIGHT CHECK:

  • The best way to check the straightness of the cue is to sight it like a rifle. Place the butt of the cue against your eye and look down the cue, rotating the cue to see any bows or twists.
  • Do not roll the cue on a table as this is not an accurate method to check straightness. This is because the cue is not tapered from the butt to the tip (it is a cigar shape). The face or the flat at the butt of the cue can create a wobble when rolled on a table.
